BCT Design Group is seeking an experienced planner specializing in district planning, master planning, and transit-oriented development. Candidates should be an architect, urban designer, or landscape architect with at least 10 years of experience. This is a leadership position in an established studio doing work nationally and internationally.
Our firm has a long tradition of master planning highly successful, complex, mixed-use people-based environments to clients around the world. We engage in our work from the concept vision down to the final implementation of the project using our 5 studios specializing in various typologies. Our focus is community-oriented development and redevelopment, with social inclusion, resiliency and sustainability as key components. Our projects include sensitivity to streetscapes and public space design. This role will entail active participation in meeting facilitation, community engagement, charrettes and presentations, as well as leading the design effort.
Candidates should display strong graphics skills and demonstrate excellent planning design principles; an academic degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, or Landscape Architecture; a minimum of 10 years of experience in this area of design; and a strong portfolio of similar work showing scale and complexity. Certification as a Certified Planner (AICP) or Landscape Architect (CLARB) is desired. Our success has been achieved by producing compelling visions that graphically come to life on paper, masterplans and 3D renderings. We are looking for individuals that exude self-confidence and can speak easily among clients, community members, and other professionals. A thorough understanding of planning principles should include massing, building typologies, site circulation, parking and other zoning requirements, public processes and project development. A comprehensive understanding of the design that occurs between buildings is essential – streetscape and the public realm.
In particular, the successful candidate can use a combination of graphics skills to express data visualization and diagrams. As one example, combining old-school hand drawing with modern software techniques results in powerful and understandable graphic explanations of the design principles being communicated. Special attention to presentation materials includes a sensitivity to graphic design, including layout composition, typography, and compelling illustrations.
We seek team members who are driven by ambition and idealism, but pragmatic and creative; are active listeners and team players; are open to learning and sharing new knowledge; are sensitive to working with a diverse team and clients; and who possess a professional attitude. We consider this position to be a track towards Principal in the firm.
