Michael Nicolaus is a Principal with BCT Design Group working across both our Planning and Architecture studios. With more than 30 years of experience, Michael provides insight and leadership in both urban design and architectural design across BCT’s broad ranging mixed-use work.

As an integral part of the design and development of mixed-use buildings, neighborhoods, and communities throughout the United States and abroad, Michael is a proponent of smart growth, transit-oriented development, and the continuing revitalization of cities. His work has been honored with design awards from the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the Urban Land Institute (ULI), and the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU).

An outwardly focused thought leader, Michael has served on various committees within the Urban Land Institute, including the Trends Conference planning committee, the National Fall Conference planning committee, and the ULI Washington Mentorship Program.

Michael’s background as a real estate design strategist is coupled with the insight gained from his mid-career return to graduate school to earn an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.”
