BCT Design Group’s vision revitalized the Hauppauge Shopping Center, transforming a dated 1980s strip mall into a welcoming, community-driven retail destination. Located in the heart of Suffolk County, Long Island, the renovation celebrates local heritage and coastal character to create a unique sense of place rooted in the spirit of Hauppauge itself.
Inspired by the town’s name—derived from the Native American word for “Land of Sweet Waters”—we crafted a brand identity that draws on the natural beauty of Long Island’s surrounding lakes and waterways. This theme flows throughout the site’s new visual and architectural language, from the cool, refreshing color palette to the integration of coastal elements like pitched roofs and iconic shingle siding.
The redesign extended beyond facades and finishes. Our team implemented a comprehensive strategy that included base building design, tenant design, placemaking enhancements, and identity development. Inviting murals, integrated public seating, and clear, consistent signage create a vibrant and cohesive environment that encourages people to gather, linger, and connect.
